Role Definition

Since 2015, our client has been developing biomethane production activity. Its business entity, created in 2023, is responsible for the development of renewable and low carbon gas production in Europe.

Our client determined to become a leading player in biomethane production in Europe with more than 10 TWh in 2035. The strategy is to increase the installed base, through the development of greenfield projects and M&A, to inject biomethane into the gas grid or to produce bio-LNG. Its entity already has biomethane production plants in operation in countries such as France, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Belgium, and projects are under development in other countries of Europe.

Civil Engineer – Biogas/Biomethane Plant Development (Europe)

Location: Paris, France

Start Date: February

Contract Type: Permanent

Travel: Occasional travel across Europe

Languages: Fluent French and English (mandatory)

Role Overview

The Civil Engineer will work closely with the Lead Engineer and play a key role in the development of new biogas/biomethane plants. The position covers early-stage engineering through detailed design, with strong involvement in technical studies, cost estimation, and contractor qualification.

This role is well suited to an engineer with solid technical foundations who is comfortable working across different project phases and is willing to adapt standards and practices outside of the traditional Oil & Gas environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Lead Engineer from conceptual design to detailed engineering phases.

  • Develop and review civil engineering deliverables, including:

    • Site layouts

    • Foundations and concrete structures

    • Earthworks and drainage systems

    • Interfaces with mechanical, piping, and process equipment

  • Review, interpret, and challenge geotechnical studies and soil investigation reports.

  • Propose technical solutions to address site constraints, constructability issues, and ground-related risks.

  • Participate in CAPEX and OPEX estimations, with a focus on civil scope and long-term asset performance.

  • Contribute to the standardization of civil engineering practices across projects.

  • Support the qualification and technical evaluation of subcontractors (civil works, geotechnical services, earthworks).

  • Interface with process, mechanical, and environmental teams, particularly where fluids, effluents, or aggressive media impact materials and civil design.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable European and local regulations.

  • Provide technical support during tendering, clarification phases, and early construction when required.

Technical Requirements & Expertise

  • Strong background in civil engineering for industrial facilities.

  • Experience with:

    • Geotechnical engineering and soil-structure interaction

    • Concrete and foundation design

    • Industrial earthworks and drainage

  • Ability to read and work autonomously with geotechnical reports.

  • Understanding of how fluids and process conditions (water, waste, digestate, effluents) impact materials and civil design choices.

  • Experience in water treatment plants, waste treatment facilities, energy infrastructure, or similar industrial environments is highly valued.

  • Exposure to Oil & Gas standards is appreciated, with the ability and mindset to adapt to different (non-O&G) standards used in biogas/biomethane projects.

  • Experience contributing to cost estimation (CAPEX / OPEX) is a strong asset.

Profile & Experience

  • Degree in Civil Engineering.

  • Ideally 10+ years of experience in technical civil engineering roles for industrial projects. However, junior profiles may be considered if they demonstrate:

    • Strong technical fundamentals

    • Ability to work autonomously

    • Solid understanding of geotechnical reports and civil design logic

  • Experience in process-related industries (water, waste, energy) is preferred.

  • Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary and evolving engineering environment.

  • Proactive, solution-oriented, and able to challenge designs constructively.

Why Join?

  • Be part of a fast-growing renewable energy developer at the heart of the energy transition.

  • Contribute to the standardization and scaling of biomethane plants across Europe.
