Description
Project scope
The assignment covers the inter-array cable testing campaign of a large offshore wind farm under construction off the US East Coast. A total of 36 HVAC resonant tests will be performed, covering 12 inter-array cable strings tested across 3 phases, following cable installation and termination works. The campaign runs from July to the end of September, organised in 4-week offshore rotations with accommodation onboard a Jack-Up Barge or Service Operation Vessel.
The technician joins the offshore testing team either working autonomously alongside a second technician or paired with a senior testing engineer, in close coordination with termination contractor personnel and the offshore commissioning teams.
Work takes place in a demanding offshore environment. Testing activities follow the progress of termination works, which requires flexibility in daily planning and close communication across teams and shifts. Safety is the first priority throughout the campaign, from equipment set-up to energisation and demobilisation.
Role overview
Perform insulation resistance testing, HVAC resonant testing and fault location on inter-array cable systems, contributing to the safe and efficient execution of offshore electrical testing operations. The technician plays a direct part in confirming that each cable string is safe and ready for energisation, and is expected to work reliably and autonomously within the offshore testing team.
Reporting line: to the offshore testing / commissioning lead, in close coordination with termination contractor personnel and the offshore commissioning team.
Key responsibilities
Test preparation
Prepare, mobilise and set up high-voltage test equipment offshore
Verify test set configuration, calibration status and safety systems before each test
Testing execution
Perform insulation resistance (IR) tests on inter-array cables
Perform HVAC resonant tests on inter-array cable strings across all three phases
Record, check and report test results in line with project procedures
Fault location and troubleshooting
Carry out fault location activities in case of test failures or abnormalities
Investigate abnormal test readings and support root-cause analysis
Safety and coordination
Apply permit-to-work, switching and high-voltage safety procedures at all times
Coordinate daily activities with termination contractor personnel and commissioning teams
Support the commissioning and testing team throughout offshore operations
Key deliverables
36 HVAC resonant tests completed and documented across 12 cable strings and 3 phases
Insulation resistance test results recorded and reported per project test procedures
Fault location activities completed and reported for any failed or abnormal tests
Test equipment maintained, calibrated and safely demobilised at campaign end
Daily test logs and progress reports submitted to the testing lead
